Questions? Start here
Subscriptions, the trial, refunds and your data — the common questions are below. If yours is not, email us.
How does the free trial work, and what happens when it ends?
EatWhat needs an EatWhat Pro subscription. New subscribers can try it free for 3 months; the exact length is the one the App Store shows when you subscribe.
When the trial ends, the subscription turns into a paid one and the plan you chose is charged to your Apple ID. To pay nothing, cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends.
How do I manage or cancel my subscription?
Apple manages the subscription. On your iPhone, open Settings → your name → Subscriptions → EatWhat Pro to change plan or cancel. In the app, the EatWhat Pro screen has a Manage or cancel subscription button that opens the same page.
After you cancel, you keep access until the end of the period you have paid for, and you are not charged again. Deleting the app or your account does not cancel the subscription.
Can I get a refund?
Every charge goes through Apple. We never see your payment details and cannot refund you directly. You can ask Apple for a refund on its Report a Problem site, and Apple decides under its own rules.
New phone, or reinstalled the app — how do I get my subscription back?
Sign in to the App Store with the same Apple ID, then tap Restore purchase on the EatWhat Pro screen in the app. No account is needed.
To bring your diary along too, sign in with Apple or Google on the old phone first so it syncs. Without signing in, your diary stays on the old phone.
What happens to my diary if my subscription ends?
Your diary is yours. When a subscription ends, picking restaurants and logging new meals are locked, but you can still open the app to read and export your own records. Subscribe again and everything is back straight away.
How do I export or delete my data?
If you never signed in, your diary and photos live only on your phone, and deleting the app deletes them.
If you are signed in, go to Me → Account in the app to Export records or Delete account. You can also request deletion without the app by following the account deletion page below. Deleting your account does not cancel the subscription, so cancel that in the App Store too.
Why does EatWhat ask for my location?
To find restaurants near you, work out walking times, and guess where you ate when you log a meal. The app reads your location only while you are using it, never in the background, and usage data records a district, never coordinates.
You can say no: pick a usual district instead and the suggestions still work. You can change your answer in your iPhone Settings any time.
Do I need an account?
No. Subscribing and using the app need no account. Sign in with Apple or Google only if you want your diary synced to a second device or your photos backed up to the cloud.
